Description

The destination of our excursion is the peak of Piz of Levico (or Mount Vezzena), the 1908mt mountain overlooking the Asiago Plateau. The path is relatively simple and suitable for a walker with a decent workout. We will leave the Vezzena Pass and on trails in the woods and partly in the wide flowered meadows we will reach the Cima Vezzena, where ferocious clashes took place during the First World War. At the top we will notice that we are not on the stones of a mountain, but on the concrete ruins of the former Austro-Hungarian Fort of Cima Vezzena. For its fantastic panoramic position and its main function as a connection with the other Forts, it was called “The Eye of the Highlands”. The panoramic view from the top will be spectacular and will range from the Brenta Dolomites to the Lagorai group, from the summits of Vigolana to the lakes of Caldonazzo and Levico to the distant peaks of Monte Baldo.
